A poor self-image can impact your life in ways you may not even realize.  It can hold you back from things you want to pursue, negatively affect your relationships, and hurt your state of well-being. That’s why it’s essential to gain skills that can help you to improve your self-image and self-confidence.  Here are some unique ways to boost your self-image that you may not have tried before.

Give yourself a pep talk

When you have a moment to yourself in the car or at home, take a breath and give yourself a pep talk.  Talk about the things you’ve accomplished recently, what makes you special, and what you have to give to this world.  You will be surprised how just speaking your accomplishments aloud can uplift your day.

Hang out with people who make you feel good

This may seem like a no-brainer, but spending time with people you enjoy can help you to re-energize and improve the way you feel about yourself.  If you are having a moment of self-doubt, call up a friend who you enjoy and ask them if they would like to go to lunch or see a movie.  Surrounding yourself with people that make you feel good about yourself will have a ripple effect on your self-confidence.

Start a gratitude journal and carry it with you

If you start to feel those negative feelings creeping back in, take a moment, pull out your journal, and write down 5 things you feel gratitude for.  This simple action will remind you of the things that are going well in your life. Often, feeling thankful and thinking about the good things in our life helps to uplift us.  Reminding yourself of what you have, what you’ve worked for, and what you have done is a great way to keep yourself from focusing on the negative.

Give compliments to at least 5 people each day

At work, or as you run errands, find something you like about the people you interact with and give them a compliment about it.  Look for the good in those around you and avoid comparisons. When you give out compliments and uplift those around you, that wave of positivity tends to have an uplifting effect on you as well.

Focusing on complimenting others is also a great way to get you out of your own head.  Showing love and care to those around you, often helps you to be more loving and caring toward yourself.

Wear your favorite fancy outfit

Have a new shirt or a new dress that you have never worn?  Put it on, put yourself together and greet the world with a little extra shine.  It may seem like a silly fix to a complex problem, but usually when you look good, you also feel good.

By changing the way you look at yourself, you can change the way you look at your life as well.  These subtle but fun practices can help you to learn to love yourself and achieve your potential in ways you could not have imagined before.
